#2 Audi R18 TDI steals Provisional Pole in the last 2 laps of 2nd qualifying session.

rae3688-copyThe #8 Peugeot 908 HDi driven by  Stephane Sarrazin had risen to the top of the provisional pole position during the 2nd qualifying session Thursday evening, with a time of 3:26:156 and remained at the top of the provisional pole position for most of the later half of Thursday evening qualifying session. During the last 5 minutes of the qualifying session the #2 Audi R18 TDI driven by Marcel Fassler had a very clear lap with no traffic and was able to steal away the Provisional Pole Position, with a blazing fast time of 3:25:961. Fassler had enough time for one more lap, but choose not to continue on with another fast lap. Stephane Serrazin continued on with one final attempt to reclaim the top position but was unable to improve the time.

rae3591-copyAndy Priaulx in the #56 BMW M3 GT crashed hard into the tires mid corner of the final chicane, half way though the qualifying session, damaging the car severely, after what had been a very fast few qualifying laps. Andy Priaulx appeared to be ok, and got out of the car on his own power, after nearly hitting TertreRougeTimes.com photographer Rusty Rae, seen in the video below wearing a black hat and Orange photo bib.

Wednesday Night Qualifying Results

With the end of Wednesday night qualifying, it is the #8 Peugeot 908 HDi of Stephane Sarrazin on top of the pole. Stephane took the top slot by just .906 of a second with a lap time of 3:27:033 followed closely by the #1 Audi R18 TDI driven by Marcel Fassler with a time of 3:27:939. With one more day of Qualifying it will be interesting to see what happens in the battle between Peugeot and Audi.

Red Flag during the Wednesday Night Qualifying after #1 Audi R18 TDI hits stopped #60 Aston Martin Vantage

With about an hour to go in the Thursday night qualifying, the #1 Audi R18 TDI hit the stopped #60 Aston Martin Vantage. Both drivers appear OK, however both cars are heavily damaged, and are being flat bedded to Parc Ferme. The #2 Audi R18 was being driven by Romain Dumas, and came around the Mulsanne corner to find the #60 Aston Martin Vantage being driven by Roald Goethe which appeared stopped at the outside of the turn.

The Thursday night qualifying session has been extended until 12:06 due to the red flag, and the green flag has been flown and qualifying has continued.
