LAKEVILLE, Ct — It was another Acura sweep of both the P1 and P2 classes in qualifying today at the Lime Rock track.
Simon Pagenaud in the De Ferran Acura ARX 02a set a new qualifying record for the track in the LMp1 class whole the Scott Sharp and David Brabham team were second by .374 seconds. In the P2 class Adrian Fernandez set fast time for his Lowe’s Fernandez Acura ARX-01B entry with a time that was only 1.3 seconds off the p1 record setting time.
As expected no GT1 cars were entered but it was a dog fight in the GT2 class for top time as the Risi Competizione Ferrari, fresh off its 24 Hours of Le Mans victory turned the top time with Jaime Mello doing the honors. Hot on his heels was series point leader Jorg Bergmeister in the Flying Lizards Porsche 911 RSR about .3 second off the Ferrari 430 Berlinetta’s time. The top five GT2 cars, the aforementioned Ferrari, two Porsche’s and a pair of BMW E92 M3s were all within one mph of each other.
One other notable car that qualified is the Coursa Motorsports Zytec Ginetta Hybrid LMP1 car that made it into the race with the third fastest qualifying time in the P1 class (but sixth overall), Driven by Johnny Mowlem the Corsa Motorsports team was nearly 2.5 seconds off the top time but had to fight numerous bugs, most of which were attributed to the fact that the team did not get their hands on the car a day before qualifying, coming from the factory in the UK.
There are still many bugs to work out but the car is not far from being able to challenge the Acuras for the front of the grid.
