Beautiful Sunny weather to start the 77th 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Le Mans, France – 10:30 am Sataurday Morning and the weather could not look better for the start of the 77th Running of the 24 hours of Le Mans. Currently the temperature is 68 Degrees with hardly a cloud in the sky. However as it has been said many times, It always rains at Le Mans, and we are expected to get rain Sunday Morning. Anticipation is high, and there is a buzz in the air, as Peugeot goes up against Audi Sport for the third time.

Currently the historics are running, and I am sure it is a real treat for any vintage fan.

LE MANS, Fr — The numbers are in and Peugeot has once again set the top time in qualifying and holds four of the top six positions on the grid for the start of the 77th 24 hours of Le Mans — but the question that has to be on everyone’s mind — and most specifically those of the Peugeot team is do the numbers tell the full story.

While it is true that the No. 8 Peugeot with Stephane Sarrazin at the wheel set the top time in qualifying (3:22.888), and while it is also true that his driving mates, Sebastian Bourdais and Franck Montagny were faster than all of the Audi team except for Allan McNish — Le Mans is a 24 hour race — and this just a small slice of time in the grand scheme of things.

So far in the big show, the Audi R-15s have been dominate though there are sections on the track where the Peugeot’s have been quicker.

Interestingly enough, while there was a “big stink” (an official protest according to some stories) raised by Peugeot, Aston Martin, and others over the design of the R-15, nothing has come out to cause the Audi’s to change anything — at least publicly.

The weather has been damp with several rain sessions per day so far — though nothing today in the afternoon. The air is thick.

While the recession grips the world it does not appear that Le Mans is being affected. Traffic into the track this evening was wall-to-wall and there are quite a few people in the stands this evening.

We will have more later this evening including times etc.
