LE MANS, France — Reports are coming in from various sources that one of the Peugeot team cars, driven by Marc Gene, suffered a hard crash at speed during test a La Sarthe circuit. Gene walked away from the wreck with but a fractured toe — but it could have been much worse if it was not for the modern safety system and driver protection. You can read about it and see video at: Motortrend .

It is said that Peugeot is rebuilding the car and will have it ready for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In what will be perhaps one of the most highly contested and competitive races in a decade, Audi, Peugeot, and Aston Martin will be squaring off at the 24 Hours of Le Mans starting June 14th at 3 pm. Last year’s winner and the winner of seven of the last eight races will have a tall order to fill if it is to win in 2008.
